Slide 11: Angiogenesis: Cancer’s Blood Vessel Growth

A characteristic of all cancers is their ability to grow new and significant blood vessels, called angioneogesis. This slide shows a tumour with its prominent vascular system. Of interest, early researches thought it resembled a crab, hence the origin of the name cancer. The abundant blood supply is the reason why the photosensitiser, chlorophyll,concentrates in cancer cells before normal cells.

This is also how the cancer “steals” food and the patient loses weight and condition.
