Slide 5: Chlorophyll Molecular Structure and the Warburg Effect

This shows the molecular structure of chlorophyll. Note the long tail attached to the ring in the upper central diagram. This is glucose. Glucose is the most important energy substrate (food) for all cancer cells. Because of this tail chlorophyll is readily absorbed into the cancer cell. This is called the Warburg Effect, more about the importance of this later.
