Slide 0: Ethics of PDT
Session 01: The Ethics of PDT
Why Patient Choice In Cancer Treatment Matters
Medical ethics is built on four pillars: Non-Maleficence (do no harm), Equity (fairness), Self-Determination (autonomy), and Truth (honesty). In the context of cancer treatment, these principles demand that patients are fully informed of all viable options, including Photodynamic Therapy (PDT).
PDT offers significant ethical advantages: it is non-toxic, involves no ionizing radiation, and can be repeated as often as necessary without damaging the immune system. True informed consent is only possible when patients understand that such a safe and effective alternative exists.
